Sources of pests:

Pest (animal and plant) species can enter wetlands through a variety of methods:

  • aquarium release
  • garden/agriculture and domestic pet escapees
  • plant dumping
  • aquaculture escapees
  • vehicle/equipment movement
  • other recreational activities (e.g. bait for fishing, attached to shoes/camping gear)
  • deliberate release (e.g. fish stocking, deer, rabbits) or naturally over time through pest migration/dispersal via wind (e.g. seeds), water (e.g. aquatic weeds) or over land (e.g. pigs, cane toads).
