Objectives of the program

To gain a better understanding of natural processes in The Lakes and to identify conditions that lead to algae bloom and fish kills.

List of indicators monitored

A suite of physicochemical parameters are monitored with emphasis on pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen (% saturation) and algal concentrations. Most importantly, visual (water colour, avifauna, surface activity) and seasonal observations (temperature, rainfall, cloud cover and tidal variations) are ongoing.

Ross Creek catchment - The Lakes – Paradise (Keyatta) Lake and Curralea Lake

Frequency of monitoring

Historically monitored twice per week (visual and physicochemical); however, the sampling frequency may be streamlined in future over the low risk months (May – October).
